Friary Centre Liverpool

Architecture

100 unit extra care facility in Liverpool for Liverpool Mutual Homes.

The centre has been developed with the local community group who will manage community facilities as part of the centre.

The community was keen to retain the elderly residents within the community and to retain their involvement. The brief was therefore to create a facility with an outward on look. All apartments have winter gardens and external space have been designed to provide a variety of external spaces with varying degrees of privacy including both an enclosed courtyard, semi private spaces, walks around the development with views of the adjacent park and roof terraces. Corridors have been designed with fully glazed areas to allow daylight in and provide a visual link with the outside world. These spaces will also have seating areas to encourage interaction between residents. In addition to the seating areas, all apartment entrance doors are situated within shallow recesses to create visual interest down corridors and again provide pauses to encourage social interaction.
