Architectural Technician / Technologist
Hybrid

We are seeking an Architectural Technician to join our 80+ Manchester City Centre architectural practice.
The successful candidate will be given significant responsibility and will have the opportunity to work on a range of exciting and fast-paced projects in the retail sector.
The ideal candidate will possess appropriate technical qualifications e.g. minimum HNC/HND or equivalent; they will also have at least 3 years post-qualification experience, across all RIBA plan of work stages.
Experience of retail/commercial interior fit-out packages, including bespoke detailing and specification writing, is essential. The ideal candidate will also need to be fully proficient in the use of Autodesk Revit and be up to date with current building regulations, technical guidance, and codes of practice. They will work as part of a team reporting to a job runner but will be expected to work independently.

Part I Architectural Assistants

In this role, you will be assigned a one-to-one mentor who will work with you throughout the year to offer guidance and support, including PEDR sheet review and sign-off.
We will provide you with:
Opportunity to experience all RIBA Plan of Work stages, including:
- Concept design / feasibility work
- Planning application drawings and documents
- Preparation of tender and construction information
Exposure to the commercial reality of practice including:
- First hand contact with clients and consultants
- A minimum of 4no client / design team meetings

Quarterly study sessions to cover key topics in preparation for your Part II & Part III:

Sustainability Coordinator (BREEAM)

We have an exciting opportunity for a Sustainability Coordinator (BREEAM) to join our expanding Sustainability Team, working on and supporting a wide variety of projects. The successful candidate will work with our Sustainability Manager and will be responsible for providing project support services for all aspects of sustainability, training and support across the practice in sustainable and regenerative design, and assistance with all aspects of implementing AEW’s Environmental Management System. The role is a great opportunity for a graduate or person in the early stages of their career to gain wide ranging experience of environmental assessment and managing sustainability within in the built environment.
The Role:
- Coordinating BREEAM assessments using TrackerPlus:
- Setting up assessments
- Keeping up-to-date notes of credit progress
- Uploading evidence
- Referencing evidence
- Sending regular project updates and interacting with the design & construction team
- Assisting with assessment submissions and certification.
- Leading key aspects of sustainability at project level to improve project sustainability outcomes.
- Supporting project teams in assessing and implementing more sustainable products, materials, and design solutions.
- Developing and delivering training and support to enhance knowledge and awareness of sustainability throughout the practice.
- Support implementation of AEWs Environmental Management System (EMS) to ISO14001.
- Data collection and calculations in support of AEW Carbon Footprint Report.
- Assists with strategy development and implementation to meet Architects Declare commitments.
- Supports the Sustainability Manager along AEWs journey to B’Corp Certification.
Qualities and Skills Required:
- Degree in a built environment discipline.
- Knowledge and understanding of BREEAM and environmental management.
- Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
- Self-motivated and able to take responsibility.
- Good interpersonal skills and able to work independently and as part of an effective team.
- Attention to detail, organised and methodical.
- Flexible and confident in multi-tasking and independently prioritising a number of projects simultaneously.
- A passion for creating a more sustainable built environment.
