Retrofitting Homes with Canopy Housing

As part of our commitment to social value and sustainable practices we have arranged a collaboration with Canopy Housing in Leeds. Over four days in March, 16 of our team will be supporting Canopy Housing’s work, retrofitting empty homes for the homeless.

Canopy Housing is an award-winning Leeds-based organisation that, with help from volunteers, retrofits empty homes to AECB Carbonite Standards using local and natural materials. These energy efficient homes are used to accommodate people in severe housing need.

Our team will be involved in the demolition and prep as well as insulating and decorating the homes. Alongside this, we’ve arranged a series of fundraising events to help raise money for Canopy which will help pay for things like food and drink, respirators and PPE for the volunteers as well as insulation and decorating supplies for the homes.

Our volunteering efforts have been arranged to coincide with B Corp Month which, as a B Corp, we celebrate each March. We recently published our B Corp Report which showcased our teams’ achievements in social value and sustainable practice from the past year as well as our plans for the future.

This is just the latest in a range of initiatives we have been involved with to help address the housing crisis. Most recently this has included Embassy Village – where we have helped design 40 supported residences beneath the historic Castlefield railway arches in Manchester – and is now on site. We’ve also previously worked with Casey, Emmaus Salford and the University of Salford’s Energy House 2.0 Team to develop pioneering proposals for new energy efficient accommodation for the homeless by repurposing former site cabins.
