Unanimous Approval for Bury New Road, Salford

We have secured unanimous planning approval for Plaza Collection’s new headquarters on Bury New Road, Salford. The project consists of two elements: a new infill office connecting two former showroom buildings on the 1.4-acre site and a standalone self-storage facility.
The former car showroom will be extended and transformed into a modern space to support Plaza Collection’s growth. The 23,200 sq ft building will house warehouse space, offices, and a photography studio, serving as the company’s new headquarters.
Adjacent to it, a five-storey, 58,000 sq ft self-storage facility will primarily provide storage space, along with a small reception area, staff amenities, and a loading zone.
The HQ’s design takes inspiration from clothing manufacture, featuring a warm, neutral palette that reflects textiles. Vertical brise soleil and composite panels mimic fabric threads, while horizontal banding adds depth, creating a woven effect. The self-storage building follows a similar aesthetic, with a gradient effect that reduces opacity from base to top, softening its mass. Tonal cladding in the same neutral shade visually links it to the Plaza office, while a recessed light grey top section further reduces its visual impact.
Chris Lenehan, Associate Director and project lead, said:
“With fantastic visibility along a major route into Manchester City Centre, this project highlights how self-storage can add significant value to residual land…”
Beyond this development, we are working on several other self-storage projects, building on our extensive industrial experience. Recent work includes the refurbishment of a Storage King facility in Leyton and a BREEAM Excellent development in Denton for Self Storage Tameside.
