Planning Approval at East Lancashire Paper Mill Island

We are pleased to share that our scheme at East Lancashire Paper Mill Island site has been approved at planning committee. The project will deliver 27 new affordable homes for client Great Places Housing Association.
The scheme comprises 20 apartments and seven houses for affordable and social rent – five three-bedroom houses, two four-bedroom houses, 17 one-bedroom apartments and three two-bedroom apartments. The development forms part of a much wider plan by Bury Council and Homes England to deliver up to 400 homes, a riverside park and a relocated cricket ground at the former paper mill site.
The development has been sensitively designed in response to the surrounding area and sites heritage. The red-bricked terraced homes are three storey in height, with small front gardens and private amenity garden areas to the rear which aim to reflect Victorian housing in the locale.
The design of the neighbouring three-storey apartment building responds to the industrial design of the former paper mill buildings and is constructed of red brick with slate effect roof tiles. The building stands taller than the new housing and has tall, pitched roofs to create a feature for the locality and to mark the gateway to the rest of the paper mill site.
Now approved, the scheme will be delivered by Great Places’ in-house construction team Terra Nova.
