Retrofit Success for the Lancaster West Estate, London

We are pleased to announce that our proposals for the retrofit of Talbot Grove House & Morland House, part of the Lancaster West Estate in London, have achieved planning.
Working with the Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team and Rider Levitt Bucknall, the scheme features the retrofit of two residential blocks. The buildings date back to the 1930s – 40s and their heritage has influenced our design as we lead a fabric first, deep retrofit to PAS 2035/2030 standards. The proposals have been co-designed extensively with residents to ensure that designs meet their requirements and to help reduce the impact on them when work gets underway.
The fabric of the buildings will first be repaired, then brought up to high levels of insulation and airtightness to reduce resident energy requirements and expenditure. Each of the 79 homes will benefit from reduced space heating demand to at least 40 kWh/m2/yr, enhanced airtightness, improved ventilation with mechanical ventilation with heat recovery will help reduce the risk of damp and mould and will help improve living conditions for the residents.

“This is a significant milestone for the Lancaster West Neighbourhood Team on a landmark scheme. We are proud to support the amazing work going into enhancing the Lancaster West Estate. Retrofitting the Houses into a 21st century model social housing estate with a view to becoming Net Carbon Neutral by 2030. The project is a testament to the collaboration of all involved through excellent co-design with residents supporting the strong design team.”
Our retrofit and sustainability portfolio is growing with recent planning success at Newton Heath, involving the retrofit of 312 homes in Manchester, a sustainable self storage facility in Denton and the BREEAM ‘Outstanding’ Cheadle Eco Business Park.
