Canon Hussey & Arthur Millwood Court

The latest in a series of recladding projects we have worked on for contractor Casey, providing architectural services on two towers in Salford.

Canon Hussey and Arthur Millwood Court are two, near identical, 15-storey residential buildings originally constructed in the 1960’s and owned by landlord Salix Homes. The buildings were refurbished several years ago with the insulation upgraded and overclad with new aluminium and terracotta rain screen systems. We were engaged to analyse these cladding systems with reference to the Hackitt report. We subsequently identified and led improvements to replace non-compliant materials and correctly install cavity barriers at compartment wall and floor lines and cavity closers to window and door openings.

Works at the two, 15-storey towers involved a complex programme, carried out under Covid restrictions, and included the removal and replacement of the existing cladding system, the installation of sprinklers and the refurbishment of communal areas. Works to both towers completed in May 2021.

This project has been used as a national test case following the Grenfell tragedy. Our Client formed part of Steering Group using our specialist knowledge of working with this type of building.
