Later Living & Care, Accommodation

Cornhill Quarter, Lincoln

Architecture

McCarthy Stone’s first urban village, located in the heart of Lincoln’s Cornhill Quarter.

Our proposals comprise premium quality later and assisted retirement living apartments interspersed with high quality communal facilities supporting urban living in the heart of the City. Our proposals are key to unlocking the final transformation of the Cornhill Quarter from a tired shopping district into a new living, retail and leisure destination. The design has been considered with the aspiration of the client to demonstrate a contemporary response to the sensitive riverside context, local conservation area and key listed buildings in the heart of Lincoln.

Regeneration of the site delivers 7,000 sqft of commercial space, 115 new homes and a range of premium communal facilities. The latter will meet the needs of the active and engaging community that will be established in the urban village. Amenities include: a public facing bistro café, private dining lounge, cinema, multi-use activity spaces, games rooms, wellbeing suites, private lounges, potting areas, and a roof-top lounge.

The high-quality proposal is sympathetic to the surrounding vernacular of the Cornhill Quarter with a considered palette of bricks to delineate elevations, detailing guided by analysis of Lincoln’s historic context and cladding, responding to the modern interventions within the Quarter. The main entrance comprises a fully glazed feature atrium. All apartments have full height windows, with the majority of apartments offering full balconies offering each resident’s access to their own private external space. All apartments have access to high quality external landscaped areas located at first floor and roof terrace offering unrivalled views of the waterfront and Lincoln Cathedral beyond.

The scheme was submitted for planning in early 2022.
