Success for Meridian 6, Wigan

Following years of hard work by our client Glenbrook and the project team, we were excited to see Meridian 6, Wigan finally gain outline planning consent at appeal last week.
The £100m development comprising 625,000 sqft of employment space, is located on a 40-acre site close to the M6 motorway. The site has been allocated for employment use in Wigan Council’s Unitary Development Plan and forms part of the South Lancashire Industrial Estate (SLIE) Primary Employment Area.
A hybrid application for the scheme was submitted in July 2021 but, despite an officer recommendation for approval, the proposal was refused in April 2022. The green light follows an appeal which was lodged in October 2022.
Dan Symonds, development manager at Glenbrook, said:
“We are thrilled to receive the positive appeal decision from The Planning Inspectorate. Wigan has a clear pressing need for employment space, and delivery of this long-standing allocated site will go some way in satisfying that demand.”
We have been responsible for the design of the scheme with SGi acting as civil and structural engineers and Gerald Eve as planning consultant.
